Esta situación presenta un serio desafío para todos los miembros de la Iglesia porque presenta una visión de la persona humana contraria a la verdad. Es de especial preocupación para nuestros jóvenes, ya que el Papa Francisco ha prevenido: Hoy en día, a los niños —¡niños! - se les enseña en la escuela que todos pueden elegir su sexo. ¿Por qué les están enseñando esto? No juguemos con las verdades. Es cierto que detrás de todo esto encontramos la ideología de género. En los libros, los niños aprenden que es posible cambiar de sexo. ¿Podría el género, el ser mujer o ser hombre, ser una opción y no un hecho de la naturaleza? Esto conduce a este error. Llamemos a las cosas por su nombre. La "disforia de género" es una condición psicológica en la que un hombre o mujer biológico llega a sentir que su identidad emocional y/o psicológica no coincide con su sexo biológico y, como resultado, "experimenta una angustia clínicamente significativa.” 4 Las situaciones que involucran la disforia de género siempre deben abordarse con caridad pastoral y compasión arraigada en la verdad. Cualquier discriminación injusta o insensibilidad innecesaria al abordar tales situaciones se debe evitar y/o corregir. Al mismo tiempo, al responder a esta pregunta con justicia y caridad, no se puede negar u oscurecer la verdad sobre nuestra naturaleza creada y nuestra sexualidad humana. De hecho, la caridad siempre requiere la presentación clara de la verdad. Como observó el Papa San Pablo VI, “[E]s una manifestación extraordinaria de caridad hacia las almas no omitir nada de la doctrina salvadora de Cristo". 5 Desde la medicina, la ley natural y la revelación divina, sabemos que cada persona es creada sea hombre o mujer, desde el momento de la concepción. "Esto necesita ser enfatizado,” escribe el Papa Francisco, que “el sexo biológico y el rol sociocultural del sexo (género) pueden ser distinguidos, pero no separados ... Una cosa es comprender la debilidad humana y las complejidades de la vida, y otro aceptar ideologías que intentan romper aspectos que son inseparables de la realidad ". Este documento presenta la enseñanza de la Iglesia Católica sobre la identidad sexual y el asunto transgénero y ofrece algunas observaciones pastorales.
