Summary
Resilience, the ability to bounce back from adversity, is not solely determined by genetic factors but is heavily influenced by epigenetic mechanisms. Epigenetics can then influence DNA gene expression, playing a crucial role in shaping our resilience. It is known that while genetics provide a blueprint, our experiences and lifestyle choices can determine how those genes are expressed. However, neuroplasticity, the brain's remarkable ability to reorganize and adapt, underscores the potential for resilience to be cultivated and strengthened throughout life.
In this podcast/webcast episode, Dr. Gregory Mattingly and Dr. Vladimir Maletic discuss the impact of resilience as well as strategies such as cognitive-behavioral therapy, exercise, social support networks, and healthy lifestyle habits which have been shown to promote neuroplasticity and enhance resilience by positively impacting epigenetic processes. By understanding and leveraging these interconnected concepts, individuals can empower themselves to navigate life's challenges with greater resilience and adaptability.
