This week, in what might be the funniest episode yet, Molly and Emese are joined by co-stars Amy Schumer and Brianne Howey. They get candid about motherhood, career evolution, and their new film, Kinda Pregnant —which unexpectedly led to Amy’s latest health discovery. Amy opens up about how public criticism led her to uncover her Cushing syndrome diagnosis, what it’s like to navigate comedy and Hollywood as a mom, and the importance of sharing birth stories without shame. Brianne shares how becoming a mother has shifted her perspective on work, how Ginny & Georgia ’s Georgia Miller compares to real-life parenting, and the power of female friendships in the industry. We also go behind the scenes of their new Netflix film, Kinda Pregnant —how Molly first got the script, why Amy and Brianne were drawn to the project, and what it means for women today. Plus, they reflect on their early career struggles, the moment they knew they “made it,” and how motherhood has reshaped their ambitions. From career highs to personal challenges, this episode is raw, funny, and packed with insights. “Making abstract art is like standing naked without the support of imagery to hide behind”. –Suzanne Frazier, contemplative artist. Abstraction in art indicates a departure from reality. The departure from accurate representation can be slight, partial, or complete. Abstraction exists along a continuum from early in the 20th century. How do you view abstraction? Is it really easy? We’ve all heard, “my five year old could do that.” Do we read forms in the work even if there is no intent by the artist? Who is your favorite abstract artist? How do you view abstraction? Reinforced Sight Vision strain reduction can improve creativity, and creativity can reduce vision strain With Co-Hosts: Suzanne Frazier & Amy Seltzer The general population underestimates vision in its strength, and overestimates sight in its weakness. An artist places high demands on their eyes, and has an intimate relationship with sight. Creativity is linked to the ability to move thoughts, which is closely tied to physical mobility of the eyes. Two discrete locations are ordained for stimulation of the visual cortex, to initiate the creative process. Today's show topic is Politics and Art. How do current events and politics affect your artwork? Are there topics you feel are too controversial to address in your art? What is the role of art in creating discussion around current issues? Is there a certain style or genre you feel lends itself more to political work? What kind of positive or negative fall out has resulted from addressing a hot topic in your work? Guest host Matt Sesow whose current show "Trickle Down" at Access Gallery is a nod to the buzzwords and posturing Matt sees everyday from his studio in Washington DC. Each day in July Matt takes a headline from the Washington Post and paints an entire painting based on the headline. Matt will help facilitate the discussion and touch on his own experiences. "While some of his images might be considered brutal or brutish in the same way as, say, Francis Bacon, they are only real life with the beauty secrets stripped away, the cover girl make-up stuffed back into society's compacts. They are the skeletons, out of the closet, with the raw meat still attached. Sesow may very well be the most important artist working today. His paintings are explosions of color. Punk rock energy paired with the symbolism of alienation dressed in the finery of a rainbow. As he says, he is trying to create something that is funny, political and chaotic. In that quest he has been successful on a grand scale. We will explore what misconceptions artists have about galleries and how to approach galleries. Have you fallen prey to some of these? If a gallery does not sell your work it must be their fault. 84-Writer/Artist or Artist/Writer or Words/Images With guest host: Thordis Niela Simonsen, Writer/Artist introducing her new book, Dances in Two Worlds: A Writer-Artist's Backstory. Sharing the story of how, from the beginning, she has pursued writing and the visual arts simultaneously. When working in photography, it is true that the visual images illustrated the writing, although in photography, at first the writing explained the pictures--although that is not what motivated Niela to pick up the tape-recorder and, subsequently, the pen. Painting came later, when she wanted to immerse herself in color, but the painting and writing have always been separate processes. In Niela's book the writing does not describe the painting and the visual images do not illustrate the text. Niela will elaborate on the nature of the relationship between the two parallel narratives. In addition to touching on what motivated her to write and pursue the visual arts and how they relate to each other, We will also be talking about the role of intuition, trust, and risk-taking in the creative process. With guest host" Gaynor Nelson In this show we will explore what is meant by 'the healing power of art'? In early 2009, I began looking for a new focus for my art that would provide meaning while giving something of value to others. I approached Steve I have had the opportunity to meet incredible individuals who have faced unimaginable pain and worked their way through their grief. These seven families with whom I have worked have lived through the experience from beginning to end and then moved beyond. Now, they volunteer in efforts to assist other families who are experiencing similarly difficult situations. These efforts include fundraising, participation in hospital events, and activities to support patients and their families. Add to your knowledge about Art Installation Our guest host Gary Parkins will help us explore ways of thinking about Art Installation and how the venue influences the outcome. Gary produces sculptures by creating machines that emit transparent glue while it is momentarily fluid. They spin and drape individual strands over tightly pulled string armatures. With time, these many thousands of gossamer filaments, when infused with white light, create shimmering works. Some present elegant illusions, others exhibit geometric principles; all invite contemplation. Our guest host Diane Kelly of DCKellyStudio.com will help us explore Encaustic Painting and the many methods that artists use with this very flexable medium. Encaustic paint is made from beeswax, pigment, damar resin and occasionally other additions to harden or crackle the paint., like carnauba wax. Encaustic paint is used hot, and is kept so on a heated palette, and fused with heat, either in the form of a heat gun, blow torch, or by exposure to brilliant sun during a warm summer. The name encaustic comes from the Greek 'enkaustikos', meaning to burn in. All layers of wax and collage need to be fused after each application of new wax. The surface can be made rough, you may collage items into it, the paint can even be cast into sculpture. It can be made as shiny as glass, and buffed to brilliance. It can look very different, like an oil painting or even like a coarse plaster wall, depending on how it is used. 88 88 ArtLook, 8888ArtLook.com, Annette Coleman, AnnetteColemanArtist.com, Diane Kelly, DCKellyStudio.com Jim Caldwell, ArtworkNetwork.com Catherine Carilli, catherinecarilli.com Jackie Butler, artgraze.com Encaustic Art Institute, EAINM.com…

What are the advantages of art in expressing emotions that we have difficulty expressing verbally? With guest host Donna Roe Daniell, LCSW We have new research about how the brain processes emotions and how to work more successfully to clear stuck memories and emotions. Art is one way in which we can access these feelings and process them. We have learned from the tremendous popularity of art in recent times to allow the artist of every age freedom to create. Picasso, Klee, and others taught us to respect the child's vision, as well as our own. How do you access your inner child? Though expressing our emotions and inner thoughts we can process and make sense of our world. 1. What is a fine art print? - Audience lack of understanding of what is a print. Even some artists don't know. - Does giclee or digital imaging fit under printmaking? - Compare hand-pulled to giclee. 2. Compare monoprints & monotypes to traditional print methods. 3. 2D value.Prints are often given less value than paintings. Why? - Misconception that prints are not original. - Name recognition.
