Let’s talk about failing: what we can learn from the Researcher in Residence model

from The Evaluation Station, Series 1, Episode 2 by Haelo. Released: March 2018.

Welcome to the second episode of the Evaluation Station. Join Abigail and Nadine once again as they reach out to another global expert in evaluation to get advice and guidance for the teams that we support. This podcast series has been delivered in partnership with the Health Foundation’s Innovating for Improvement programme.

In the second episode we talk about failure and the application of evaluation and learning throughout the project. We discuss the potential of reaching out to people in the wider organisation and further afield to help with the evaluation of the project, such as PhD or Masters students. We talk through the key elements of project evaluation, such as; thinking of evidence at the beginning, the consideration of evaluation from the start, being open to changing the project and not being wedded to the change idea.

Our guest for the second episode is Prof. Martin Marshall who is a Professor of Healthcare Improvement in Primary Care and Population Health at University College London. He is also Vice Chair at the Royal College of General Practitioners, and Programme Director for Primary Care, UCLPartners.

The Health Foundation is working with THIS Institute who are working in partnership with patients and NHS staff throughout the UK, boosting research activity to provide more clarity on what works in improving healthcare, what doesn’t, and why. Find out more about the work they are doing together on their website.
