A friend in need is a friend indeed. A man who stands by his friend in adversity is a true friend. Selfless love is the base of the true friendship. True friends share each other’s joy and sorrow, pain and pleasure. They do not fall off in adversity. They have full confidence in each other. They never betray each other. Prosperity makes friends, adversity tries them. A selfless friend is a blessing. Joy and sorrow, success and failure, good fortune and misfortune, are equally shared by a pair of true friends. They shoulder the burden of life equally, for they feel that they sail in the same boat, and that they have to sink and swim together.
A friend in need is the medicine of life. He stands by us through thick and thin, in weal and woe. He is a source of joy and inspiration. A friend in need is a true guide. He is always loyal and faithful. He is never a victim of misunderstanding. He is not a flatterer and a yes man. He is open and plain. If his friend goes wrong, he will openly tell him that he should desist from such a course. He would lead his friends to face the reality and get rid of the fear. He will offer the advice to release the pain.
Lucky is the man who has a true friend--a friend in need and adversity. First of all, a friend in need helps one feel less lonely. Moreover, in this day and age, people can easily feel detached and lonely. Consequently, this causes anxiety and depression to develop in a person. A helpful friend certainly eliminates feelings of loneliness.
Furthermore, such a friend would tell how great he feels about friends and all the positive aspects of friends. A friend in need is someone who provides a reality for friends. Such a friend, except for telling positive things, is not afraid to explain the friends’ shortcomings. A friend in need is certainly a supporter of the friends’ dreams and aspirations. He would always believe in friends. This true friend would stand by friends in any situation or circumstance. We don’t need to pretend things in front of our friends. The only thing that counts is each other’s company. Being in the company of that person gives immense comfort. A true friend shows empathy and compassion. He is very kind and merciful. He teaches us courage and satisfaction.
Being a careful listener is another notable characteristic of a friend in need. A true friend carefully listens to each and every word his friend says. Even if it is the same thing repeated again and again, he/she will listen patiently. Having a good friend around us who listens calmly and then gives an assurance that such-and-such a situation will soon pass makes life beautiful. Such a friend is a priceless gift. A true friend respects and honors what one’s friend says, and provides non-judgemental perspectives. A true friend respects each other’s emotions and thoughts. The mutual respect among true friends builds a trustworthy and supportive relationship. A true friend helps one make use of logical decisions rather than emotional ones. There are many emotions and feelings that are hard to reveal in front of family members. To free our hearts from heavy emotions, it is important to talk to a person who can understand us. We can be judged by a spouse, a boss, colleagues, relatives but true friends never judge us. A true friend would, definitely, direct us to see the clear pictures of happiness, and let us realize the truth. A true friend is sincere to reveal the path of awakening. He is kind and considerate toward himself and his friends.
In conclusion, the true friendship is during times of difficulties. The friend who offers genuine help during troublesome periods is a resilient, firm and fierce friend. A true friend is really a person who treats himself very well including his friends. He is so tender, generous, warmhearted and sympathetic. He cares so much about friends and even expands his goodness, benevolence and humanity toward people and animals around the world. A true friend in need is a friend for life.
