Everything New Is Waiting for Us
Everything new is waiting for us. But most of us just hate to wait. Now, let’s think of the art of waiting. And then, we try to explore the new things in our lives every day.
The art of waiting makes us more aware of how time passes. As the time slowly ticks away, we can’t help but think about all the other things we could have been doing instead. Actually, we spend much of our daily lives waiting. In our modern world, we’ve made in communication speeds over the last several centuries. That is, we can only have to wait for a few seconds for a reply to our texts, line messages and letters because we’ve come to expect an immediate response. We don’t like to wait. Waiting makes us powerless. However, waiting has already woven into the fabric of our everyday lives. For example, we experience of waiting to serve dishes in restaurants. We wait for our coffee to brew, for the red light to turn green, for the inspiration to write papers, and for responses to our FB or IG messages. We even wait for the buses, the posts, and the elevators. We wait for things to begin, and once they’ve begun, we wait for them to end. Life is a lot easier if we know how to wait. In fact, waiting teaches us the virtue of patience. We have to wait calmly and without complaining. We even need to know that boredom and powerlessness are inherent to waiting, and then we can master the art of waiting patiently.
Good new things come to those who can wait. Waiting is a prerequisite for success. The good news: seeing time as something new we share instead of something that can be taken from us, turns waiting on its head. When we wait, we could learn new things and do something new. Learning new skills enhance our quality of life. And it is a great and satisfying pastime for us. When we succeed in learning something new, we feel better, more confident in ourselves and in our ability to tackle all sorts of new tasks. One of the most crucial reasons to learn something new is that we gain power when we do. This new-found power means we don’t have to ask someone to fix, mend or make something for us. We are empowered to do everything new by ourselves. The world is, actually, full of fascinating skills and talents. And the process of discovering them is enjoyable and rewarding. Moreover, a new hobby can be a great stress reliever. It helps us break out of our normal patterns of behavior. It, too, gives our brains something to think about other than our daily worries. It might be a mere temporary distraction, but it shows our mind and body that thinking about something new other than stressful things is possible and desirable. When we do or see something new, the novelty center of the brain is activated. It makes us feel good and rewarded.
Of course, doing something outside of our routines is uncomfortable and sometimes scary. When it comes down to something unfamiliar, people fear the feeling of fear, and this leads to avoidance. Again, everything new is waiting for us. If we think of the times we were happiest in the past few months ago, such as “What were we doing? What experiences made us feel most fulfilled? What did we want our relationships with ourselves, partners, family members and friends to look like?”, we can substitute some of the time we spend now for trying out new, enjoyable activities that boost our happiness and our mental well-being. If we give it a try, discovering new things would, definitely, change our lives. No doubt, many people find stability in their lives, and keep things going as they have been. They like to have a familiar routine, the same friends, and the same activities. There’s nothing wrong with this. Long-lasting relationships, routines, and traditions give people a sense of belonging, a feeling of home, and comfort. But it’s also essential to have the unfamiliar in our life because doing different things and interacting with new people can provide a healthy mind. In reality, expanding our experiences is exciting. When we expose ourselves to new and different ideas, places, and experiences, we open ourselves up to whole new worlds we didn’t know. We would even absorb these new worlds through our thoughts, senses, and emotions, translating into new insights, perspectives, and knowledge. Furthermore, our brain is meant to be changing, and it changes through exposure to the unfamiliar. The more we expand our horizons, the better we will be able to experience the new and the different fully. One of the most essential elements of trying new things is experiencing them with an open mind, open heart, curiosity, and a sense of wonder. Traveling, meeting new people, and having new experiences let us become a child again, and approach new things with a childlike sense of wonder and curiosity. New and different experiences, indeed, keep our lives fresh and help us grow. Therefore, it’s very possible for us to do it well with practice, starting in this moment right now.
