The Power of Light
Frances Banks died, as she had lived, fully aware of what she was experiencing and where she hoped to go. She was an Anglican nun for 25 years and for much of that time, the principal of the Teachers’ Training College in Grahamstown, South Africa. She was the author of many psychological book. Her last book was Frontiers of Revelation, an account of research into psychic and mystical phenomena. Her friend, Helen Greaves, was by her side as she finally lapsed (陷入) into unconsciousness. Then, one evening some three weeks after Frances’s death, Helen sensed her presence. This extraordinary encounter marked the beginning of contact between them from both sides between life as we know, it and life on “the other side.” Testimony of Light is based on these communications that Helen received telepathically from Frances. The writings have been authenticated by those who knew them both, and who were familiar with their individual writing styles. Moving and inspiring, this classic book is a testament to the enduring power of their friendship, and offers an important message to us that the death of the body is but a gentle passing to a much freer and fuller life. Helen Greaves lived in the United Kingdom, and was the author of several books of metaphysics, including The Challenging Light, The Dissolving Veil, and The Wheel of Eternity. Testimony of Light has remained in print since it was first published in 1969, and it has touched many people. Testimony of Light by Helen Greaves consists of many communicated “scripts (手稿)” expressing the perspective of Frances Banks in the ascended (上升) dimension of life. After the memorial service for Frances, Helen experienced a euphoric (狂喜的) Sunday evening that she expressed as being an occasion when she was “not only in touch with my own immortal sou,l but also with the soul of Frances Banks.”
Among these scripts are descriptions of people encountered by Frances while she was becoming acquainted with the nature of the new plane of existence. There were new acquaintances, including Mother Florence and Father Joseph. Among the new contacts was “Mr. M,” a scientist that his research indicated “a certain X factor which was beyond man’s conception, the perfect Creative Factor, a Supreme Mind.” “'Dr. X” was a surgeon who became aware of an inner “all-knowing, all-perfect Him” to perform miracles of surgery through his brain and hands. There was a Nazi leader (not Hitler) who’d committed suicide after the downfall of Germany. He was conscious of his terrible cruelty and filled with remorse. There was an encounter with Pierre Curie (皮埃爾·居里,法國物理學家): “I was able to have a word or two with Pierre Curie, even though on earth he was a Frenchman. Language affords no difficulty over here.” There was an arrival soul who had been a missionary nurse put to death by natives. She was accompanied by “Laki,” a small native boy she’d befriended. They had arrived here together. Even in the period of transition to this plane, she had held the child to her with love. There an ex-policeman feeling anguish about his troubled daughter on earth: “He no longer feels shame or anger, only a great desire to express his love for his daughter, and to help her redeem herself from the life she is leading.” A pretty child, named Jeannie, had lived to be nearly 12 years old on earth. Her ambition had been to become a dancer until contracting polio (小兒痲痺症) and undergoing several operations. Jeannie told Frances: “I’ve got to be perfect at dancing.” There was encountered a Frenchman who on earth was a painter of promise, indulging in drink and drugs. His current habitat was “a dreary little room in a dark and crooked street in Shadow Land.” However, he still cherished some remembrances of beauty. Frances told him, “There is a way out.”
All our various spiritual practices should bring some benefits to the body, mind and our society. Therefore, we need to feel the presence, the beauty, and the benefits of our practices, little by little, in our everyday life. Each day, we should feel a little healthier physically, more peaceful and be living a more useful life. The essence of all the spiritual practices is to make us physically easeful, mentally peaceful, and socially useful. There are various happenings that we don’t live a healthy and balanced lifestyle. But if we lead a selfless life, we won’t blame others for our anxiety, depression, disappointment, frustration, jealousy, or anger. On the contrary, there will be no worry at all. Then we will shine brightly. Light conveys both an absence of darkness, and a quality that will help us to see and understand more clearly. The light of wisdom will guide us through troubled times and challenges. A light heart is wise. People who are light in nature laugh easily, and take life as it comes. They do not dwell in life’s downturns (衰退) with a heavy heart. They bounce back with resilience (彈性). A blessing of light at any time is a great gift to give and receive. Light is always sent “for the highest good.” Light is a natural resource, free of charge. Light, always, restores a sense of trust and well-being that things are working out just fine. Light is the purest form of prayer. It comes with no conditions and only love. Light is the great connector that finds harmony and union where there is discord and divisiveness. Light brings healing and peace, where there is disease and discouragement.
Light is healing. The first creation of the divine was light. It was the first matter or energy that we are essentially surrounded by light. Research shows that we are made of light. Researchers have discovered that DNA itself is a storehouse of light. Disease occurs when the body interjects (插入) too much or too little light from the field. The universe is essentially surrounded by and produced from light, and so are our bodies. Many scientists speculate that we exist within a great field of light. There is always light, no matter how darkness appears to be. These discoveries suggest that not only are we encompassed by a field of light, but light holds everything we need. Thus, we can access light for our well-being, and use light to free ourselves from regrets, resentments, and dysfunctional energies. Besides, medical and therapeutic care involves working with light, balancing negative and positive by using hands-on methods, surgery, medicines and other mind-body tools to create an optimum balance. We, actually, use light to help create new thoughts, attitudes, approaches, and possibilities.
Light is Love. Light is a metaphor that it allows us to see, to know, and to understand who we are, who everyone else is, and what we are all doing here.
We are here to understand what each thing is; to understand the relationships between different things, and different living beings; to understand the relationships between the seemingly different, but integrated worlds of the body, the mind and the spirit that define us. In the darkness, we stumble upon things. When there is light, we don’t stumble because we can see the lay of the land, and the positioning of everything with respect to everything else, and the manner in which all things are laid out in our lives. The presence of light in our life, mind, and consciousness, enables us to pick out a path for ourselves; a path that leads us to the destinations that we seek, for where our hopes lie, there we go ultimately. Light feels good because it allows us to see well enough to gain knowledge of our surroundings, and our situation in these surroundings. In the world of the mind, light gives us insight and understanding.
In the world of consciousness, light is a metaphor for love. Love feels good because love makes it possible for things to come into existence, and also to continue to exist, and be held together. Light serves as a symbol, and a metaphor for insight, intuition, understanding and love. In the Bible, Christ has said, “The light of the body is the eye: if therefore thine eye be single, thy whole body shall be full of light.” (眼睛是身體的光:因此,如果你的眼睛是單一純正的,你的全身就會充滿光明。) This signifies that we shall only gain light that we need to see, to understand and to love everything and everybody unconditionally and without judgement, when our whole being becomes filled with light. The purpose of being human is to seek light in order to seek insight and understanding, and to seek love, all of which come from the light and also give rise to the light, in a spirit of oneness. In the end, we understand that we are love, and that everything and everybody is love. If we have failed to light up our minds with insights and with understanding, it is because we have failed to light up our insides. We should light up ourselves, search long and hard within ourselves to see what we choose to manifest, and take onboard (參與) the light of unity, compassion and love.
