People Connection
Through the years, we’ve thrived as a species by connecting with others. Whether we were hunting for meat, gathering berries, or traveling in stagecoaches, and so on, we did it together in social groups. It’s this human connection that has advanced our world from gathering, and hunting for our food to shopping for it in grocery stores. But with the rise of digital interactions, we’ve also seen an increase in loneliness. We no longer meet for drinks after work, or gather with our friends for game or movie nights. Meetings and social gatherings are now done virtually. However, simply put, we need human connection. Connecting with others on a physical and emotional level can improve our health and overall well-being.
Human connection is the sense of closeness and belongingness a person can experience when having supportive relationships with those around them. Connection is when two or more people interact with each other and each person feels valued, seen, and heard. There’s no judgment, and we feel stronger and nourished after engaging with them. Human connection can be a chat over coffee with a friend, a hug from a partner after a long day, or a hike in the woods with a family member. Connecting with someone doesn’t have to always include words, either. Time spent in relative closeness and experience can also be a bonding experience. Our day-to-day lives are busy. We spend our days balancing between endless meetings, school activities, and family responsibilities. On top of that, we try to squeeze in exercise and running errands. This leaves us with no time to connect. In a world of more virtual than physical interactions, human connection is now more important than ever. Social connections can offer a number of mental health benefits, such as boosting mood, reducing stress, and improving self-esteem. On the contrary, social isolation contributes to depression, insomnia, and cognitive decline. A lack of human connection has been found to be more harmful than even obesity and smoking. Further, loneliness has been shown to impact not only our physical health but our emotional health, too.
When we reconnect with friends, whether that’s through a quick phone call or on a nature hike, we can go through a multitude of emotions. We’re either laughing, crying, or chatting. When we express these emotions, we feel good and happy. Besides, helping others is a rewarding way to build friendships and connect with others. Routine interaction is a great way to get comfortable with socializing and getting to know others, such as joining a local group, a book club or hiking group that meets regularly. Common interests are a great way to bond and form relationships. In fact, regular contact deepens our connections with others and ensures that we don’t lose touch with those we value most. Moreover, regardless of any types of relationships, a hug can go a long way. Touch also can deepen our relationship bonds.
It’s never too late to engage in human connections. The benefits can have a lasting impact on our mood and stress levels. No one has to connect socially in the same way. We really try our best to find good ways to connect people in our own unique lifestyles. Though different cultures have different beliefs about how important social connection and interdependence are to our lives, actually in the whole world, we can give us an unparalleled ability to cooperate and collaborate with others. We tend to have the same beliefs and values as those of the people around us, so it is not hard for us to connect people. Creating deeper connections even helps us feel better. We gain the most pleasure from connecting with people who are in our groups. When we share our personal lives, our deeper thoughts and feelings, we create stronger bonds with people. The act of trusting someone has them trust us back. When we connect with people we already trust and work on things together, we create shared experiences and shared goals. We share good ideas, and help everyone take better care of themselves. The more we find ways to stay connected, whether through humor, virtual happy hours, or sharing our personal lives at home with our peers, the healthier we will all be.
Socially people connections are not only so nice to have; they are but also a primary need for our humans. People connection is a deep bond that’s formed between people when they feel seen and valued. Through connections, people exchange positive energy with one another and build trust. It also includes our desires for interpersonal relationships and intimacy to connect with others, and to be integrated into a group. Studies show that having a strong support system helps people overcome challenges more easily and maintain a state of mental well-being. Many people might experience or have experienced a lack of human connection at some point in their lives. However, the key to overcoming loneliness and living a more fulfilling, happier life is to challenge ourselves and look for opportunities to build genuine connections with those around us. This can be anything from joining a club, reconnecting with an old friend, or volunteering for a cause we believe in. Therefore, just do it right now to build connections with people around you. It is worth it!
