Have you ever considered “Is Jesus safe?” Like Lucy asks of Aslan in The Chronicles of Narnia? Our focus text for this week reveals that Jesus just like the allegorical lion, is in fact not safe but rather a threat. Jesus is a threat to those who hold onto power, he is a threat to people like Herod, and the religious leaders who saw how Jesus was a threat to the rules that kept all God’s people from experiencing all God had intended for our lives. Jesus and Aslan are not “Safe,” but they are “Good” and that is the Good News in the story of Epiphany!
