In this episode, Michelle, shares some insight into becoming more visible and the nervous system. Sharing our voice, taking up more space, and sharing our professional expertise, views and opinions can feel exposing, especially when you are a woman.
Every time we wish to seek out a new job, a promotion, professional development, a new course or training, it requires our nervous system to match where we aspire to be. Imposture syndrome can bubble up to the surface creating immobility, doubt and procrastination. Or if we power through we might notice exhaustion and burnout from the constant override.
The more I support female professionals who have a strong desire to harness their personal power, expertise, strengths and expand their professional practice further, the more I’ve noticed a pattern in the nervous system response.

Taking up more space, sharing our voice, taking risks, and being more embodied in our professional practice can actually be very activating for our nervous system and can trigger a traumatic stress response. This requires building capacity in our nervous system so we can grow into the successful person we desire to be. We do this by supporting the nervous system to expand it’s window of tolerance to career development. This helps us to occupy more space and allow us to grow into the version of ourselves that we desire to be.

When we work at a deeper level with our nervous system we become more embodied which means we experience life in much more connected way. This means we FEEL more and we are less likely to minimise, dismiss, ignore, power through, or push through. Our mind and ego is no longer in charge. Instead, we include the intelligence of the body and check in to see what the body has to say about our decisions and choices. That’s not to say there is an absence of fear or anxiety about doing something new but our nervous system has the capacity to straddle the two parts and with the right support we can rise to being more seen in the world.
