  • Rachel Hollis talks about the following in “the most important things I do every year” episode of The Rachel Hollis Podcast in episode #78. It’s stuck with me all this time.
  • Do audit of previous years calendar. This is from John Maxwell “15 Invaluable Laws of Growth”. Sit down the week after Christmas and before New Years.
  • Rachel Hollis adjusted and did this: It took her ½ day. Opened her calendar. Go day by day. How did you spend your time? 1st list: things that were awesome and worth your time. Things that helped your home life and/or business grow and positively affected you. What we want to see more of in 2024. 2nd List: Wastes of Time/Energy: Things that stress you out, make you anxious, were a waste of time, money, or energy, and that you never want to do again. 3rd List: Things that make you feel like you’re living a good life. She is really good at work and it’s easy to be a workaholic. She’s not so good at being a mom, so it’s harder to want to focus on that. She struggles being at home and not working. But now she’s focused on making those a priority. When’s the last time that I laughed really hard and had so much fun? Figure out 5 things that when I do them, I feel like I’m living my best life (for her they are date nights with husband, really good, slow meals, long runs outside, massages, dinners with girlfriends)
  • 3 Categories: 5 things you want to see more of this coming year? And the stuff you absolutely want to repeat and definitely don’t want to repeat.
  • Go through every day of your planner. It will be a long list. We discover how much time and money we wasted. What if we could get the time and money back? That is essentially what we’re doing. We’ll know what we want to repeat and what we don’t and will do things more intentionally next time.
  • Now, make sure you do MORE of your top 5! Put those top 5 in your calendar during that appointment. Schedule it during this appointment for the whole year! (this is easier in google calendars).
  • “The problem as… people is that we’re often moving so fast that we don’t stop to see where we’re going–we don’t stop to analyze and reassess and make sure we’re heading in the right direction and make sure we’re not making the same mistakes over and over.” -Rachel Hollis
  • Audit your calendar!!
  • Kendra Nielson’s breakdown: Start writing your 3 top wins daily. At the end of the week, write your top 3 wins of the week. At the very least, write your top 3 wins for the week. At the end of the month, have a calendar appointment where you briefly audit the month. This takes me 10 or 15 minutes and it’s part of my journaling and scripture routine.
  • I answer these questions monthly: Did I reach my goals (why or why not), What score do I give myself from 1 to 10?, How do I feel about my progress? Using the wellness wheel, did I maintain a good work-life balance? Which wellness realms were lacking? What 3 things can I improve next month?
  • The new questions I’ll add this year are: What are my 3 to 5 top wins for the month (for my personal life and my business?) and I’m starting a google sheet where I track those monthly because at the end of next year, I will audit all of those, which will be about 50 for personal and business, and highlight the ones that I’m most proud of so I can do more of those, and/or remember those because WINS/SUCCESSES are what give us the steam to keep growing and moving forward.
  • At the end of each Dec., it will be a lot easier to track wins when they’re written down monthly when they were fresh in my mind rather than try to remember them all. But then I can also easily review previous years from that same google sheet with yearly tabs. If each year has 5 to 10 highlights and top wins, I’ll easily be able to determine what was worth my time in my personal life, with my relationships, spirituality, mental health, etc., as well as with my business.
  • THIS is how you live intentionally and purposefully!
  • You’ll find that what is highlighted at the year’s end and month’s end will be the things that you truly value most.
  • Each month, you’ll find yourself wasting less of your time on things that don’t bring you joy or fulfillment
  • Each year, you’ll live more wisely and intentionally
  • Does it take time? Yes, but really, we’re talking about 10 minutes a week, 10 minutes a month, and about 4 hours at the end of the year. How much time do you think you’ll save by doing these things?
