Kate Blessing, Director of Community Relations for Ebenezer’s Martin Luther Campus in Bloomington, joins host Ken Haglind on “Living Health and Aging Well” radio show to discuss their innovative, award-winning community event for seniors, the Older Adult Job Fair. In partnership with the City of Bloomington, this event hosts employers with paid part-time and seasonal positions who know the value older adults bring to the workforce in terms of expertise, dedication, mentorship for younger workers, and more. In many cases, these job seekers are retired from their full-time work and looking for the ability to stay active, connect with others and make additional income. The event creates meaningful conversations beyond online job postings and applications for employers and job seekers to really connect, ask questions and explore options in a casual environment. Time and again, the feedback has been extremely positive. Many job seekers have reported finding rewarding positions as well as deep appreciation in knowing these employers valued their skills. There is a myriad of unique and interesting employment areas from gardening and grocery services to tutoring and supporting area seniors with household chores and much more!
