November 4 - Connoisseur Kids: Etiquette, Manners, and Living Well for Parents and Their Little Ones, by Jennifer L. Scott (2019)

Welcome to our fourth episode of The Lovely Book of the Day podcast! I’m your host Carrie, from the Lovely Living blog and Lovely Living University online classes website. I have another nice book suggestion for you today.
Sometimes throughout this podcast, we recommend “self improvement” books or books meant to help you change your life in a positive direction. In this case, I wanted to recommend a book on etiquette for parents raising children. (If you don’t have kids or aren’t actively involved with nieces, nephews or grandkids, you might still find this book interesting, but I wouldn’t blame you if you skip over this podcast episode and wait for tomorrow’s next book recommendation!)
We all, I’m sure, have some friends we wish we could force to read a book on teaching their kids manners! Sadly, we can only control ourselves and try to mold our children (nephews, in my case) into better, nicer people. I learned some things about etiquette for myself to put into practice too, as I was reading through this book.
I think about a certain friend who I love dearly, but who my circle of friends has stopped inviting to parties because her children are so incredibly rude and poorly behaved, and don’t seem to ever be corrected by their mother or expected to behave any differently. We miss the friendship with the mom and look forward to resuming it when the kids go away to college someday.
Chapters include Communications (including posture, eye contact, and speaking clearly, plus the importance of Please and Thank You), Table Manners (including Setting the Table and arranging flowers for the table, napkin folding etc) Tidiness, Thinking of Others, Hygiene and Grooming, and Health. Each chapter includes fun, lighthearted games and activities you can do with your kids to teach them the concepts.
With holiday travel and family gatherings on the horizon throughout the New Year, this might be the time to invest in reading this book with your family and discussing the concepts.
