Now, Azvudine, a domestically developed drug treating adult COVID-19 patients, is now available at 251 community health service centers across Shanghai. The oral drug was approved by the country’s top drug regulator in July and added to national COVID-19 treatment guidelines one month later. Zhang Yue finds out more.

目前，上海全市已有251家社区卫生服务中心配备了新冠抗病毒药物阿兹夫定。国家药监局7月批准使用这种口服药物，8月将其纳入《新型冠状病毒肺炎诊疗方案（第九版）》。记者张乐带来更多详细报道。

At 7am, 500 boxes of Azvudine pills were delivered to Changhai Community Health Service Center in Yangpu District. The drug will be prescribed to those in need. However, doctors said even though an anti-viral drug like Azvudine are effectively used in curbing【抑制】the virus, it is not ideal for everybody. They also noted that the timing of taking the drug is important.

Small-molecule anti-viral drugs are best used within 72 hours after the patients show symptoms, as that is when they are more effective in reducing viral load and curbing virus replication. Children, pregnant women and breast-feeding moms should not take the drug, which is also not suitable for those with liver or kidney problems. Small-molecule anti-viral drugs may have some interactions with drugs treating underlying diseases like high blood pressure and diabetes. That’s why patients should follow doctors’ advice when taking Azvudine.

小分子抗病毒药物最好在患者出现症状后72小时内使用，这样能够有效地减轻病毒载量、阻断病毒复制。妊娠期、哺乳期的妇女还有儿童，包括有一些肝肾功能不全的居民是不太适合使用的。小分子药物和一些基础疾病像高血压和糖尿病，用药之间可能会有一些相互作用，这些也都是建议要在医生的指导下进行用药的。

Lu said some patients being treated at the community clinic and some elderly people living in nursing homes have already taken the medicine. Changhai residential committee said it has identified 40,000 of 170,000 people in the area most likely to need Azvudine.

陆医生还表示，部分收治在社区卫生服务中心的住院病人，包括下辖养老院内的老人，已用上抗病毒药物。长海社区居委会表示，已对辖区内17万名居民、4万多重点人群加强排摸识别和诊断。

As of last month, Azvudine was available in 31 provinces across China. Each patient is prescribed 5 milligrams per day with a treatment course lasting a maximum of 14 days.

截至上个月，阿兹夫定抗病毒药物在全国31个省份都有供应。每位患者每日服用5毫克，一个疗程最多持续14天。

2.SPRING FESTIVAL PASSENGER TRIPS EXPECTED TO DOUBLE

春运客流量有望翻番

The Ministry of Transport said as COVID-19 control measures have changed, inter-provincial trips are expected to soar. Total passenger trips during this year’s Spring Festival are forecast to double compared to 2022, exceeding【超过】2 billion, and recovering to about 70 percent of 2019 levels.

交通运输部介绍，随着疫情防控政策的放开，跨区域人员流动加速释放。预计今年春运期间客流总量将超过20亿人次，同比增长一倍，恢复到2019年同期的七成左右。

As the coronavirus wave has not come to an end, we suggest people arrange their travel plans based on their health status. Seniors with underlying diseases, pregnant women, and families with infants and young kids are advised to take fewer trips to reduce infection risks. We recommend people avoid public transportation when returning home if they are showing symptoms of infection.

考虑到当前疫情流行尚未结束，我们还是倡导大家根据自身和家庭成员的实际情况，合理安排出行计划，特别是患有基础病的老年朋友，以及家中有孕妇、婴幼儿的家庭，要尽量减少出行，以降低自身和家庭成员的旅途感染风险。对于选择乘坐公共交通工具，回乡过年的朋友应主动避免带症状出行。

As many as 12,200 passenger trainswill be scheduled nationwide during peak days.An average of 11,000 passenger flights are scheduled nationwide each day during the travel rush, 73 percent compared to 2019. The most popular flights are from Beijing to Sanya, Shanghai to Beijing, Beijing to Haikou and Shenzhen to Kunming. In Hainan Province, Haikou Meilan International Airport is expecting more than 2.5 million trips during the travel rush.

春运高峰期，全国将安排多达6077对客运列车。旅游高峰期则平均每天安排1.1万个客运航班，与2019年相比增加73%。最受欢迎是北京至三亚、上海至北京、北京至海口和深圳至昆明的航班。据预测，在旅游高峰期间，海南省海口市美兰国际机场旅客量将超过250万人次。

We added about 520 flights leaving Haikou for popular destinations like Taiyuan, Shanghai, Shenyang and Xi’an. We will also switch to wide-body aircraft for flights to Shenzhen, Beijing and Shanghai to carry more passengers.

Here in Shanghai, trains will transport more than 9.5 million passengers during the travel rush, a 38.7 percent increase year-on-year.Peak【峰值】passenger flow is expected on January 19th. There are almost 2,000 inter-city buses in Shanghai, and they need to be checked by traffic police before getting a permit to operate.

This year, we’ve paid extra attention to the use of safety belts. If a bus is found to have passengers not wearing belts more than three times since December 13th, it will not get a permit to operate during the Spring Festival.

3.PUTIN ORDERS RUSSIAN MILITARY TO STAND DOWN FOR ORTHODOX CHRISTMAS

Russian President Vladimir Putin yesterday ordered a temporary ceasefire for Russian troops along the front lines of combat【战斗】areas for Orthodox Christmas. The ceasefire will last 36 hours starting at noon local time today. Lei Shuran has more.

俄罗斯总统普京昨天（01/05）下令，由于东正教圣诞节，从当地时间今天（01/06）中午12:00开始持续36小时，在作战地区前线的俄罗斯军队实行临时停火。记者雷舒然带来更多详细报道。

Putin also called on Kyiv to declare a ceasefire based on the fact that a large number of Orthodox citizens live in the combat areas.Ukrainian presidential adviser Mykhailo Podolyak said yesterday that Kyiv will agree on a ceasefire with Russia only after Russian troops are withdrawn from Ukraine.Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that Russia is attempting to hide new steps of the aggression under the pretext【借口】of this proposed ceasefire.
