Listen to "Self Discipline Is my Best Friend"
Listen to "Self Discipline Is My Best Friend (Part Two)"
I wasn't planning on doing a "Part 3" to this series, but when my whole day unraveled as I was creating part "Part 2", I just had to share five insights that I gleaned.
I don't want us to be confused thinking that if we have self discipline that equals "everything will go my way exactly as I planned for it to go"! Like somehow self discipline is a magical key that unlocks a life without ups and downs, trials and heartaches.
Last week I talked about how creating a morning routine will help you start your day feeling more confident, grounded and in control which in turn helps you elevate your life in general.

And that is absolutely true.

AND what is also true is that having a morning routine will not guarantee that everything the rest of the day will go according to your plans.

Having self discipline...

Repeating mindful practices again and again...

Forming incredible healthy habits…will help you become your highest self.

Having self discipline is not however, a magical key that unlocks the door to a life without trials or failures, disappointments and heartache. I just want to be so clear about that…because I think that when unexpected things happen or different outcomes than what we wanted happen…we could easily think a very defeating thought that goes something like “but I am doing everything I am supposed to be doing-why is this happening to me?”

Which might lead to, “why try?” , “What is the point?” Or “I give up.”
There are always always going to be things in life that we can control and things that we can not control.

For over a decade I had the following quote on my bathroom mirror. “Let go of the things you can’t control and do the things you can with a happy heart.”

And I get to practice living that quote every. Single. day. Whether I am feeling on top of the world or like everything is falling apart. The day I am going to share with you is Ironically, the day I literally created and published the episode about rockin a morning routine and how having self discipline around your morning routine blesses your life.

I had planned to record that episode before 6am when the rest of family was awake. I didn’t end up recording until almost 10pm that night. And I am going to briefly share with you why and how focusing on the things I could control helped me pivot with inner peace as the day evolved. It had to do with focusing on these 5 things that I could control and letting go of the 5 things I could not.
1. Outcomes/results versus effort.

2. Other people’s thoughts, opinions and actions versus my own thoughts, words and actions.

3. My knee jerk reaction to event that happens versus the thoughts and response to the event that I keep.

4. The past versus the present

5. Physical needs vs how we honor our needs.
