Wir alle tun es. Ohne Ausnahme. Jeden Tag. Manche sogar mehrmals. In dieser Folge widmen wir uns einem Prozess, der uns allen aufs Intimste bekannt, und dennoch von der Wissenschaft nur in Ansätzen verstanden ist: Schlaf. Doch wieviel hat unser waches Bewusstsein tatsächlich mit der Entscheidung zu tun, wann wir uns zur Ruhe legen, und wer bringt eigentlich unser Gehirn ins Bett? Während wir einschlafen, lernen wir Schlafschalter im Gehirn kennen, stolpern über Schlafbedarfsproteine und stellen unsere Innere Uhr. Danach wird allerdings nicht entspannt, jetzt geht es erst richtig los! Und zwar mit Müllbeseitigung, Instandhaltung und Krankheitsbekämpfung. Auch unser Hirn treibt die ganze Nacht über Dinge. Was genau? Nun, davon, das herauszufinden, träumen vermutlich Hunderte von Schlafforschern.
