This was another fantastic episode in the books. I had the great pleasure of having Amitty Cooper on my show to discuss all things involving entrepreneur! Amity Cooper is a trained mental health professional, Lifebook facilitator, and entrepreneurial coach, whose mission is to empower others to live their lives fully and authentically. After 18-years in the business world, creating and designing products and services for both herself and others, she had come to a crossroads. Exhaustion had set in and her life, as she had known it, was falling apart. Waking up to the realization that she was living a life that was unfulfilling and unsatisfying, she went on a quest; holing herself up to do the deep work and healing she needed to get her mind, body, and spirit aligned. Through a series of unfortunate or fortuitous events, (depending on how you look at it) Amity gave herself permission to ‘re-do her life plan’. During that journey inwards, Amity discovered that what she loved most was working with people to help them discover their true North Star coordinates. Amity returned to school for a second master’s degree in mental health counseling and stepped into the arena to become a trained equine-assisted psychotherapist while incorporating all her entrepreneurial know-how to help other in-service professionals uncover and reach their full potential in life. Born in Pendleton, Oregon, Shannon's lifelong passion for dogs and training propelled her into the world of Schutzhund—a European canine sport renowned for testing a dog's tracking, obedience, and protection skills. Training under the tutelage of 1988 world Schutzhund champion Gene England, Shannon acquired extensive experience and knowledge in this specialized training method. Her diligence led to a decade-long competitive career at local, regional, national, and international levels, culminating in her winning the 2003 European Championship in Diest, Belgium. Shannon's dedication to canine development is exemplified by her successful establishment of Man's Best Friend Boarding and Training Kennel in Battle Ground, Washington, in 1997. Over the years, Shannon and her team have trained thousands of dogs, addressed various behavioral issues, and provided solutions for both family pets and service dogs. In 2011, Shannon was approached by a U.S. Veteran of the Iraq conflict who sought her assistance with his service dog. Deeply moved by the transformative impact of the service dog on this Veteran's life, Shannon was inspired to found Northwest Battle Buddies in 2012. It was an honor having Master Sergeant (Retired)Crystal C. Romero on the show! Crystal is a military veteran who has served 16 1⁄2 years in the US Army National Guard, serving full-time Active-Duty Operational Support primarily in her home state of New Mexico. Today, she is an activist for veterans’ causes and has had a significant role in passing legislation related to military sexual assault and veterans’ mental health. In this episode she will discuss her motivations for joining the military as well as the powerful meaningful work she has done. Crystal also get's into discussion on many of the difficult aspects of her job that took an emotional toll of her well being. After her honorable discharge, in 2014, Crystal struggled to adjust to civilian life and found herself battling depression and PTSD. That struggle is what prompted her to start volunteering to help other veterans, who are presumably, worse off than she is. This was to be her path to redemption and the way she plans to make her mark in the veteran’s community: through her advocacy. Crystal always stood up for what she believed what was right no matter what the implications were. Which makes her an amazing person that I have had the pleasure to meet and have as a special guest.
