1. The Promise of the Holy Spirit (Verses 15-17)

Jesus’ Call to Obedience:
Jesus begins by urging His disciples, “If you love me, keep my commands.” This call to obedience is not merely about following rules but about demonstrating love for Jesus through the way His followers live out His teachings. It’s a response to the relationship they have with Him.
The Advocate: Jesus promises that if His disciples keep His commands, the Father will send them “another Advocate to help you and be with you forever—the Spirit of truth.” The Advocate, often referred to as the Holy Spirit, will be sent by the Father to guide the disciples after Jesus departs. This Helper will teach them, remind them of Jesus’ words, and empower them for the mission ahead. The Spirit of truth will also reveal deeper understanding to them, helping them navigate their faith.
The World Cannot Receive the Spirit:
Jesus contrasts His followers with the world, stating that the world cannot accept the Holy Spirit because it neither sees nor knows Him. However, His disciples know the Spirit because He lives with them and will be in them. 2. Jesus’ Continued Promise and His Peace (Verses 18-24)

Not Abandoning His Disciples: Jesus reassures His disciples that even though He is leaving, He will not leave them as orphans. He promises to come to them, which refers to both His resurrection and the coming of the Holy Spirit. This is a comforting reminder that His presence will always be with them, even though He will physically depart.
The Peace of Jesus: Jesus offers His peace to His disciples, a peace that is different from what the world offers. He tells them, “Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you.” This peace is not based on external circumstances but is a deep, inner peace that comes from knowing that God is in control and that Jesus has overcome the world. He encourages them not to be troubled or afraid, even though the events ahead may seem daunting.
