#114 Why your message matters

Today we are going to have a conversation about why your message is of critical importance to your audience. Even if you don’t have one. Especially then.

Because it is not your fancy schmancy branding, the number of times you show up on every single social media platform or how many times you say “I was just like you” in an effort to build trust. That stuff matters to some extent it’s true - branding sets the vibe of what they can expect from your business, social media done right (i.e. not on every platform spouting filler fluff because you're stretched too thin) and your story is what will help them connect to you. It matters. It’s part of being in business.

But what matters for more is the message you share. The message of your soul. What do you want to see changed in the world? What do you desperately want other people to know? What is the pain/heartache/doubt you want to heal? What is the joy or relief you want to bring to your clients? What is the thing that you know, deep inside your heart, that you are here to bring the world? Because there is something. Something only you can bring forward. Even if a hundred other people do the same thing in their business, only you bring this particular message.

This is more than your why. This is your what. Not why do you do the thing you do. But instead what is the difference you are here to make.

Similar but not the same.

And it is your message, the difference you dream for the world, that will connect to your clients even if the other stuff is missing. Because if you connect into your heart space, your deep knowing of what you are here to do really, they will feel that in their heart space. The emotional resonance is what will connect you. And emotion cannot be faked, you either feel it or you don’t.

You can’t fake it and expect them to feel it.

Every time you post, speak, write or show up in your business, remember that you are showing up for the change you are here to create. Take a breath and remember your heart reasons. Drop into soul truth. Then post. It’ll be much more effective. And that’s not wrong, to make the change, you have to tell the people. You were never supposed to do it alone.

Find your soul voice and find your soul tribe.

If you get stuck in the difference between your big why and the message, go an onion skin deeper. And then deeper again. I help X do Y so that they get Z. Why does it matter to you that X gets Z? If all the Xs in the world got Z what would the world look like? What does that actually mean.

For example,

I help mums lose the baby weight so that they can fit into the clothes they actually like rather than mumsy wear.

They feel more confident in their bodies.

They have more energy for mumming.

They remember that they are a woman and not only a mum.

They don’t sacrifice their health for their children.

They reclaim their sexy.

Now go deeper.

Confident in their bodies - means they will model healthy body image for their children. If all the mums did that then the next generation of children would grow up with a positive image of their own body. Which means that those little girls and boys will grow up to be comfortable in their own skin, respect their body and health and not get caught up in the negative spin of disordered eating, extreme exercise, self-hate and cosmetic surgery.

Do you see how that’s so much bigger than I help mums lose weight? I help mums feel confident in their own body so the body shame that’s plagued them their whole life ends with them/doesn’t get passed down to their little one.

Do you feel the difference?

You don’t necessarily need to have that written in your bio, though you might, but you do need to know that. So when you share your story, your client stories or talk about the importance of your work - you connect it into the heart of what you do. Maybe you talk about having watched your mum struggle with her weight, or hating your body in your teens, or the pressure to fit into the perfect wedding dress and how you don’t want that for you kids.

That is how your clients will feel your heart, when they can feel your message and not just see your pretty branding that looks like everyone else.

And as a bonus, the more you connect into your message the more confident you become and then your branding and copy will naturally start to radiate that self-assurance too.
