Recorded on Yuri Night 2012. The Supreme Ayatollah for Life Eric Robertson was joined by "Bad Wolf", "Vin", "Nadine Nadester", and Andrew Kanninen from the faraway land of Dutchess County, NY. Andrew wanted to try the old gatekeeper Ketel One and so we grabbed all the Dutch vodkas we had on the shelf to determine the national champion of Holland! Trump and Ketel One returned to square off against newcomers Effen, V2, Vincent Van Gogh. As usual, the results were somewhat surprising. Current champ Crystal Head was tested against Dutch Champion afterwards. Who prevailed? Download to find out!

The core of this test was a variety pack of the Polish Chopin vodka, In potato, wheat, and rye varieties. Potato-based Spud vodka, also from Poland was put head to head against Chopin Potato, American Grays Peak was put against the wheat. Ultimat vodka, also from Poland, is a blend of potato, grain, and rye. These were all unknown quantities to us, so we also threw in the perfectly adequate bargain priced grain based Rokk as a baseline. There were a couple of real stinkers and one was even officially denounced, but a challenger emerged to put the venerable champ Crystal Head to the test. The ending was a little ambiguous, as you’ll see.…

We began discussing Maker's Mark aborted plan to water down their bourbon, and Beth compared this move to the New Coke debacle in the 80s. From then we went into a half hour tangent that had very little to do with bourbon. We cut that from the episode because of time considerations. Welcome back fellow boozers! I am, of course, your Supreme Ayahtollah for Life of the Booze Committee, Eric Robertson. It’s been a while for reasons that we’ll explain later in the episode. I’m calling this one bourbon boogaloo 2.2 because there was a truly epic 5 person, 10 bourbon tasting which was recorded and documented, but was unfortunately totally lost. We’ll refer back to that marvelous experience, but for this round, we have 6 bourbons, Buffalo Trace and Eagle Rare from the Buffalo Trace Distillery, Rare Breed from Wild Turkey, Heaven Hill’s Elijah Craig, Upstart Town Branch, and the well regarded Woodford Reserve, which had been crowned World Champion bourbon in the lost episode.
