In today's podcast Paul speaks about a moment with one of his clients when they showed him a picture of how they had looked two years prior.

“I’d love to look like this again,” they said — those words accompanying a photo of a gaunt, malnourished, rather anxious-looking person. At least, this was his suspicion.

Our minds have a tendency to pull a specific situation from the past and gloss over it in a way that blinds us to the surrounding context that made it mundane, unpleasant or even unbearable.

Today he talks about

  • What is at the heart of a nostalgic attitude
  • Why there is a disregard for why things had to change in the first place
  • Nostalgia in relationships forgetting the arguments, sexual frustrations, disagreement and lack of shared values
  • Why it's not a unidimensional situation with an easy answer. There is no one easy, correct solution.
  • Would returning to the past make us truly content?
