In episode 122 on The People's Scientist podcast, I dive into some scientific evidence on how physical and psychological stressors increase the need for Magnesium. Magnesium helps to buffer the stress response by promoting the production of ATP, Serotonin, GABA, and antagonizing the excitatory NDMA receptor. However, chronic stress can deplete Magnesium and reduce the ability to buffer the stress response. This may lead to symptoms like irritability, fatigue, weakness, nervousness, poor sleep, and heart palpitations. Tune in to find out what may increase our chances of becoming deficient, how much Magnesium we need, good food sources, and much more.
