One thing you're going to receive in the upcoming interviews is more exploration of nutrition. When I went through my Master's Degree in Somatic Psychotherapy, I was consistently surprised that there was no class on nutrition. This feels like a missing piece in the therapeutic world. I feel therapists would benefit from being aware that a person's nutritional status can also be contributing to their symptoms.

This includes one of the many reasons why you might be binging. Binge eating isn't just a reaction to emotional or nervous system dysregulation. It can also be triggered by nutrient depletion from living in a trauma response. When your body is stuck in a state of chronic stress, it tries to compensate for the lost nutrients and minerals. Binging is your body’s best strategy to get its nutritional needs met.

In this week's Satiated Podcast episode, I talk about:

  • the connection between trauma and nutrient depletion
  • what nutrients get depleted because of ongoing high cortisol levels
  • a baby step you can take to start to be in a new relationship with nutrition
